Ask what your cat already uses
Before adoption, ask which tray and litter the cat is familiar with. Write down the product name or take a picture of the packaging so you do not have to remember it at the shop.
Map the room
Sketch where you will place food, water, the bed, and the tray. Keep the litter area away from food and water, as described in Cats Protection’s home preparation guidance. Check that doors will not accidentally block access.
Prepare the cleaning supplies
Keep the scoop and disposal supplies somewhere convenient and safely out of reach. Read the litter and tray manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. Put recurring supply purchases on your list before you run out.
Observe before changing everything
Record what is working and discuss persistent problems with your vet. A sudden change in toileting deserves attention; avoid assuming that a new product is the answer.
