Build a shortlist together
Write your favorites on separate pieces of paper. Ask everyone who will use the name to say it aloud. Try calling it from another room and using it when making a veterinary appointment. This is a practical way to notice awkward sounds or names that feel too similar to another pet’s name.
You can also keep a formal name and a nickname. A cat named Juniper can still be Juni at home. Choose something you will enjoy using years from now, rather than feeling tied to a passing joke.
